January is one of the driest, sunniest months in Cabo, with almost zero chance of rain. While it’s not overly hot, it’s pleasant enough to be outside and enjoy different activities during day time. So, if you are not into hot tropical climate like Tulum or Sayulita, Cabo might be the right place for you.

Cabo is the coldest month in January with day time temperatures range from 79 Fahrenheit (26 Celsius) and evenings that dip into the low 60s Fahrenheit (16 Celsius). Nights tend to be much cooler, with temperatures dropping into mid-50’s Fahrenheit (12-23 degrees Celsius), so bring a light jacket or sweater.

One of my favorite activities in Cabo is a guided hike through Zorro Canyon (also known as Fox Canyon), located in Santiago, a small town approximately 50 miles from Cabo. The trail starts in the Zorro Canyon and leads to a cascading waterfall that feeds into a crystal-clear pool where you can swim and cool off.

It’s a very scenic hike in the Baja desert, perfect if you want to get away from the city and explore the backcountry. Since the area receives so much rain, the entire area has plenty of plants and flowers and lush greenery, something you don’t see during the high winter season, when the weather is dry and sunny.

Santa Maria Bay is one of my favorite beaches in Cabo with shallow clear waters, perfect for swimming and snorkeling. 

Santa María Bay is a quiet, horseshoe-shaped cove that feels worlds away from the buzz of downtown. Protected as a marine sanctuary, its calm, turquoise waters are home to colorful schools of tropical fish, sea turtles, and sometimes even rays gliding gracefully along the sandy bottom.

In January, the ocean is calm and visibility is fantastic, perfect for snorkeling. Cabo Pulmo is free from mega-resorts, due to its protected status, although development is slowly coming with several hotels popping up in the area. Still, Cabo Pulmo feels like a totally different world thanks to unspoiled beaches and rugged coastline, with adorable burros roaming around.
