Should I visit Cabo in July?

Cabo in July has above-average humidity and higher chances of rain, but you can enjoy discounts on hotels 🏨 car rentals 🚗 flights ✈️ and avoid high-season crowds.

Summer is a low season in Cabo, and if you want to visit this beach town in July, you should be ready for a chance of rain. While July doesn’t have as much rain as August and September, it still has less-than-ideal weather with high humidity and some precipitation.

Since July sees fewer tourists than the high season, local tour operators and hotels are willing to offer lower prices to lure customers. If you want to visit Cabo during this month, plan your trip to save money when you book everything at least a few months in advance.

So what is Cabo really like in July? Can you still enjoy outdoor activities despite the occasional rain? Or is it better to plan your trip for a different month?

Let’s dive into everything you need to know before planning your trip to Cabo in July.

While the skies are clear most of the time, it also rains occasionally. Whether you want to spend time at the pool in a resort or enjoy water sports, you’ll have a chance to bask in the sunshine all day.

Cabo in July humidity 💧

Humidity is around 65-70 percent in Cabo during July. While it’s more humid than during the dry winter months, it’s not overwhelmingly sticky thanks to the coastal breeze of Baja California. With warm days and slightly muggy nights, July is a great month for mid-day dips in the Sea of Cortez and poolside cocktails in the evening.

Looking for less humid weather? Visit Cabo in May, when the weather is more dry.

Is Cabo humid in July?

Yes, Cabo is humid in July, but it’s still more comfortable compared to other tropical destinations like Cancun or Tulum. The humidity in Cabo isn’t unbearable, especially if you drink plenty of water and take breaks in the shade. Most hotels, restaurants, and stores in Cabo are air-conditioned which means you have a chance to cool off.

Things to do in Cabo In July

Although July is in the middle of the low summer season, there are still many fun things to do in Cabo during this month.

Snorkeling at Playa Sanata Maria is one of the best free things to do in Cabo san Lucas
Playa Santa Maria is one of the best swimmable beaches in Cabo sheltered from the big waves by the gorgeous bay.

1. Go beach hopping

With warm ocean waters averaging 80°F (27°C), July is one of the best months for swimming, snorkeling, kayaking, and paddle boarding.

You no longer have to worry about chilly water and can swim without a wet suit. Playa del Amor (Lover’s Beach), Playa Chileno, and Playa Santa Maria are some of the best swimmable beaches in Cabo.

Beach hopping is one of the best free things to do in Cabo, provided that you have a car rental 🚗 Another option is to book a hotel directly on the beach like Me Cabo by Melia Montage Los Cabos, or Paradisus Los Cabos, which are located along swimmable beaches in Cabo.

July is an excellent time for water adventures like snorkeling and diving. The Sea of Cortez is teeming with marine life, including all sorts of fish, manta rays, and even whale sharks. You can join a snorkeling or diving tour in the Sea of Cortez or swim with whale sharks in La Paz 🦈

Snorkeling tours in Cabo are travelers’ favorite as they take place daily and are easy to book. Book a guided snorkeling tour online ahead of time, so you don’t have to worry about it when you are on the spot.

3. Explore Baja’s culinary scene 🥑

Baja’s food scene is second to none. The region is home to legendary Baja fish tacos, which are said to have originated in Ensenada, a coastal town in Baja California Norte, another state that makes up the Baja California Peninsula.

But fish tacos aside, there are many other seafood-based dishes like ceviche, aguachile, and seafood quesadillas, that you can try during your trip. Cabo has phenomenal street food, which you can enjoy in local taquerias, Tacos Guss, and Mother Flower, as well as Mexican restaurants, like Casa Martin Restaurante and El Peregrino.

If you are a vegetarian or vegan, like me, you will still be able to enjoy veganized Mexican dishes.

Another option is to book a guided food tour 🌮 in Cabo that includes stops in many local eateries and offers an excellent chance to explore the local dining scene beyond touristy spots, and try more authentic flavors in a casual atmosphere.

4. Ride an ATV in the desert 🌵

Navigating Cabo’s rugged desert landscape on an ATV is the ultimate adventure. Many areas around Cabo are not accessible to regular cars, and joining a guided ATV tour offers you a perfect opportunity to venture into places that most tourists don’t get to see.

Watching the sunset in Cabo is a must! Book a sunset cruise with open bar and snacks 🍹 for the perfect romantic or group outing. You can also go to the beach and watch the sky light up in pink and orange hues, as the sun dips below the horizon.

If you want to treat yourself to something special, book a luxury sunset cruise with a chef 🧑🏽‍🍳 who will prepare delicious meals for you while you are enjoying the views.

6. Enjoy Cabo’s vibrant nightlife 💃🏽

Cabo’s nightlife is fun during any time of the year, and July is a perfect month to enjoy Cabo’s bars and nightclubs without big crowds, which can take away from your experience. From beachside bars like Mango Deck to amazing rooftop bars like The Rooftop at The Cape, Cabo’s party scene is vibrant and fun.

7. Take a day trip from Cabo

Taking a Baja road trip is one of my all-time favorite activities. You can spend a long time exploring Baja California, with its pristine beaches, scenic hiking trails, and small desert towns where time stands still.

But the good news is that there are plenty of day trips from Cabo that don’t require spending hours on the road.

One of my favorite day trips from Cabo is Cabo Pulmo National Park, a pristine stretch of Cabo’s coastline that’s still free from mega-resorts and mass development.

Best guided tours of Cabo Pulmo National Park

Cabo Pulmo is one of the best places in southern Baja for snorkeling 🤿 and diving 🐠 due to its proximity to the reef and crystal clear waters sheltered from big waves by the reef.

You can take a guided tour of Cabo Pulmo from Cabo San Lucas or rent a 4×4 car 🚗because the road to Cabo Pulmo is very rough and bumpy.

Rent a car if you want to take day trips from Cabo San Lucas because local transportation is not always reliable.

Don’t feel like driving on the rugged roads to get to Cabo Pulmo?

Take a shorter trip to Todos Santos, a small colonial town about one hour north of Cabo San Lucas where you can learn the history of Baja Sur, shop at the artisan market, and surf at some of the best waves in the area (if you are experienced) or get a surfing leson 🏄🏽‍♂️ at Playa Cerritos.

You can get to Balandra Beach from La Paz by car or bus
La Paz is home to Playa Balandra, one of the most famous beaches in Baja California.

You can also drive from Cabo to La Paz, the capital of Baja California Sur. La Paz is known for its eco-tourism, and here you can swim with whale sharks 🦈 snorkel with sea lions 🦭 or go sandboarding on the dunes 🌵

It takes longer to get to La Paz than Todos Santos, but you can always book a guided tour of La Paz if you don’t feel like driving and planning your activities.

8. Visit San Jose Del Cabo 🎨

San Jose Del Cabo is a sister city of Cabo San Lucas about 25 minutes via Tourist Corridor. San Jose Del Cabo has a more authentic feel and is known for its art galleries, vibrant downtown with cobblestone streets, street performers, and farm-to-table restaurants where you can try Mexican dishes from locally sourced ingredients.

You can catch an Uber or drive a rental car to San Jose Del Cabo to enjoy the unmistakable flair of a typical Mexican pueblo, or take a guided tour, which offers a good intro to the area.

9. Hike scenic trails near Cabo 🥾

While July is a hot month, you can still enjoy hiking, as long as you do it early morning.

I recommend Mount Solmar, a free guided hike, and one of the best free things to do in Cabo San Lucas. The hike begins early morning and takes you to the highest point of Mt. Solmar, a desert hill beyond Cabo Arch. Once you arrive at the top, you will enjoy a fantastic 360-degree view of the area.

Hiking Mount Solmar in Cabo san Lucas
Hiking Mt. Solmar is possible only with a guide, because the trail is located on private property.

To learn more about the hike, check a designated Facebook page, run by Enrique, a local man who works at an animal shelter on the property, and organizes daily hikes to Mt. Solmar.

If you do this hike, leave a small gratuity for Enrique, because he does a phenomenal job along with several other volunteers who help him to make sure all participants enjoy their experience.

✔️Don’t forget to put on plenty of sunscreen, and wear good hiking shoes.

Tips for visiting Cabo in July

Expect higher chances of rain if you want to visit Cabo San Lucas in July
Expect higher chances of rain if you want to visit Cabo San Lucas in July.

1. Be prepared for some rain

July isn’t the rainiest month in Cabo, but you should be prepared for some rain, especially in the afternoon. If you plan to hike or spend time outside, bring a rain jacket or waterproof shoes so you don’t get wet if you are caught up in a sudden rain.

2. Guided tours might not always be available

Some tours in Cabo can get canceled or not be available because of the low demand or bad weather. When you want to book a specific activity, always ask your provider if there’s a chance of cancellation and have a back-up plan in mind.

3. Always have an alternative plan

If the forecast calls for rain, your travel plans might get affected. If you book a tour that involves water activities, it could get canceled, so you would find some indoor activities to keep yourself entertained.

Check out Cabo Museum or book a cooking tour, which will be mostly indoors, or check out the best farm-to table restaurants in Cabo, like Flora Farms, Acre, El Huerto or Los Tamarindos to enjoy authentic Baja cuisine and other regional specialties from all over Mexico.

4. Stay hydrated

It’s easy to get dehydrated in Cabo in July, especially if you plan to enjoy outdoor activities under the sun. Always carry a water bottle, because tap water in Cabo is not safe to drink. You can always stop at a supermarket or the nearest Oxxo (a Mexican chain of convenience stores), and get a small water bottle or a bigger container (called el garrafon in Spanish).

5. Book a hotel with a nice, big pool

July is a hot month in Cabo, and since many beaches in the area don’t have good swimming conditions, you should book a hotel with a big swimming pool, so you have a nice space to swim around because there’s a good chance you won’t be the only person there.

Resorts like Zoetry and Me Cabo by Melia have stunning beachfront pools, but if you are looking for a more economical option, you should check out my article about the best inexpensive hotels in Cabo.

6. Pack plenty of summer clothes

Pack a few pairs of shorts, t-shirts, sandals, a few swimsuits and a GoPro 📸 because you will most likely spend some time on Cabo beaches. Cabo has some hot temperatures, and it’s important to pack enough clothing so that you don’t run out of things to wear.

7. Book your trip in advance

July is one of the best times of the year to score incredible deals on hotels 🏨 car rentals 🚗 and flights to Cabo.

Here’s the secret: Your trip can be even cheaper if you book everything in advance and not last minute. You can look for airfare ✈️ early and also book your hotels 🏨 and activities through Viator, my favorite platform for booking guided tours in Cabo and other destinations in Mexico.

8. Always wear sunscreen

Don’t leave your hotel without putting on enough reef-safe sunscreen to avoid a bad sunburn. If you want to be extra careful put on a hat and wear layers.

9. Hunker down during mid-day

The combination of scorching sun and high humidity can make it tough to be outside, especially if you are not used to it. I even heard about some travelers who got a heat stroke because of it, although it’s more of an extreme case.

To avoid exposure to extreme heat, it’s better to avoid direct sun from 12 to 4 p.m. when the sun tends to be the strongest 🥵

Check out the best beach clubs in Cabo to escape the heat

10. Get a travel insurance

When you travel to Cabo during the hurricane season, you should always be ready for potential travel disruptions. From canceled tours and flights to flooded roads and other unforeseen events, rainy weather can wreak havoc on your travel plans.

Check: Is Cabo San Lucas safe?

To protect yourself and avoid losing money, you should get a travel insurance for your trip to Cabo. SafetyWing is my preferred travel insurance company that offers plans as low as $30 and can protect you in case something happens. You can compare available plans and check their prices online.
