Interested in taking one of those fun cooking classes in Cabo San Lucas?

You are in the right place!

During one of my first trips to Mexico, my friend talked me into booking a cooking class. Although I’m not really into cooking, I agreed to take it as I love Mexican cuisine and wanted to learn more about it.

I didn’t expect much, but it was a lot of fun!

Headed by a professional chef, this class was perfect for a newbie like myself who wants to learn the secrets of authentic Mexican cooking. I prepared authentic Mexican guacamole with the help of my chef, and ceviche (I’m a vegan, so I unfortunately couldn’t eat it).

Mexican cuisine varies significantly by region, with distinct flavors and ingredients. For example, coastal areas like Baja California emphasize seafood, while inland states of Mexico like Puebla and Chiapas focus on meats, beans, and vegetables.

Since taking an authentic Mexican cooking class, I recommend it to everyone who wants to know how to prepare Mexican dishes. You can find plenty of recipes for Mexican food online, but you are not likely to learn the secrets that only real chefs know.

That’s why you should take a cooking class in Cabo, the food capital of Baja California. Cabo is known for its fresh seafood, and many restaurants serve popular dishes like ceviche, tostadas, and of course, famous Baja fish tacos prepared with grilled fish, wrapped in tortilla, and served with various toppings like cabbage, salsa, and crema (sour cream). Yum.

While you can try it in a Cabo bar, tasting mezcal on a tour provides a better experience, as you learn the history behind the famous drink.

Mezcal production is centered in specific regions of Mexico, primarily in Oaxaca, although it is also produced in other states such as Durango, Guerrero, San Luis Potosí, and Zacatecas.

The production process for mezcal typically involves cooking the agave hearts (piñas) in underground pits lined with hot rocks, which gives mezcal its characteristic smoky flavor, with notes ranging from smoky and earthy to fruity and floral, depending on the agave variety and production methods.

Renting a car in Cabo San Lucas

No matter what class you choose to book, having a car rental in Cabo often makes things easier. Many tours in Cabo charge for round-trip transportation, and beyond downtown Cabo San Lucas, the area is not walkable, and you will need to rely on Uber or taxi if you don’t have a vehicle.

To avoid spending money on transportation, book your car to get around the area, visit incredible swimmable beaches in Cabo, and take day trips to Todos Santos and La Paz.

DiscoverCars is my go-to company for finding car rentals in Cabo and other parts of Mexico. You can find dozens of car deals and buy Mexican car insurance through them, which is mandatory for driving in the country.
