I’ve been to Loreto many times and stayed at many hotels, so I can tell you all about the best accommodations in town.
Nestled between the Sea of Cortez and the Sierra de la Giganta mountains, Loreto is one of the most spectacular places in Baja California known for its diverse wildlife and scenic landscapes.
Loreto quickly became one of my favorite places in Baja California, because of its spectacular scenery and cozy feel. Although it feels like a small town, it offers super outdoor opportunities, if you are into the kind of thing.
In recent years, several airlines launched flights from the United States to Loreto, giving this town a big boost in tourism.
So where can you stay in Loreto?
The town is small but it has a good variety of hotels, apartments, and resorts for many tastes and budgets.
If you plan a trip to Loreto and want to find out about the best places to stay in town, keep reading. I wrote this article after visiting Loreto several times, and I hope that it will help you find a good place to stay.
Best areas to stay in Loreto:
✔️Downtown Loreto (Centro Histórico)
Also known as downtown Loreto, this colonial architecture, cobblestone streets, and vibrant atmosphere. It has charming cafes, restaurants serving Mexican cuisine, boutique shops, and historical landmarks like the Mission of Our Lady of Loreto.
✔️Loreto Malecon
The Loreto Malecón is a picturesque waterfront promenade with scenic views of the Sea of Cortez. It’s also a departing point for tours of Loreto Bay National Park.
✔️Nopoló
Located south of Loreto, Nopoló is a beach town known for its resorts and pristine beaches with clear waters. It boasts the best all-inclusive hotels in Loreto, golf courses, and beautiful beaches perfect for swimming, snorkeling, and kayaking.
✔️Loreto Bay
Loreto Bay is a master-planned community is renowned for its eco-friendly design, colorful Spanish colonial-style homes, and pedestrian-friendly streets. Residents and visitors enjoy access to amenities like pools, spas, restaurants, and the Loreto Bay Golf Course.
✔️Puerto Escondido
Located 15 miles south of Loreto, Puerto Escondido is a picturesque harbor village with rugged desert landscapes. It has a marina with services for yachts and sailboats, as well as opportunities for hiking and exploring nearby islands.

BEST HOTELS ALONG LORETO MALECON
Malecon is a waterfront of Loreto that’s home to hotels, restaurants, and bars. It’s also where you can buy tours of the Bay of Loreto National Park from one of the local operators who park their boats in the area.
It’s super helpful because you don’t need to book tours ahead of time, as you can find local tour operators along the Malecon.
The Malecon is home to several luxury hotels in Loreto such as Hotel Oasis, and Hotel Mision de Loreto. If you can afford to spend more and want to enjoy the incredible views of the Se of Cortez from your room, you will love your stay!

One of the most popular hotels along Loreto Malecon, Hotel La Misión Loreto is just a quick walk from downtown Loreto and boasts raving reviews from travelers who praise its friendly staff, excellent service, and central location within walking distance from many Loreto landmarks.
The property has a spa, 2 swimming pools, a bar, and two on-site restaurants that offer Mexican and international cuisine. Breakfast is served daily.
Parking is free.
2. SuKasa Bungalows

Sukasa Hotel offers free bicycles, which you can use to get around the city. These spacious bungalows come with a fully equipped kitchen, which means you can save some money on eating out.

All rooms come with a coffee machine, and there’s also free parking available on-site. Some bungalows have courtyard views, while others have sea views.
3. Loreto Playa Boutique Hotel

One of the most beautiful boutique hotels in Loreto, Playa Boutique is tucked into the streets just a few blocks from Loreto Malecon. It’s a cozy place if you are looking for a quiet place to stay.

Free bikes are available to guests making it easy to get around town and get groceries from stores and local street vendors.

Situated at the end of Loreto Malecon, it’s a perfect place to spend your vacation. This hotel sits on a private beach and offers a tranquil stay away from the crowds and noise.
The on-site restaurant bar serves international cuisine and Mexican cuisine. There is also a beach club and a pool bar where you can enjoy a drink and relax after a day of activities.
Isla Coronado, the largest island in Loreto Bay National Park is 30 minutes by boat. The hotel can help you book activities like kayaking, snorkeling, and diving, and general tours of Loreto Bay National Park.
Hotel Oasis has free parking, and excellent breakfast. While you are relatedly close to downtown Loreto, you get to enjoy the idyllic setting of this hotel.
BEST HOTELS IN DOWNTOWN LORETO
Downtown Loreto is the heart of the city that’s home to the historic Loreto mission, a museum, and some of the best restaurants in Loreto like Mi Loreto, where you can try authentic Mexican food and Vic’s Bar which has phenomenal margaritas.
If you want to be in the center of action, downtown Loreto is a place to be. Although hotels here can tend to be a bit more expensive, you can find good deals if you book your stay ahead of time through Booking.
5. Hotel Posada De Las Flores

A gorgeous pastel-pink hotel in downtown Loreto, Posada De Las Flores is located along Plaza Civica. This stylish hotel is set in a Spanish Colonial-style building, which makes a perfect base for exploring the area.

6. Bugambilias Suites Hotel

BUDGET HOTELS IN LORETO
Many budget hotels in Loreto are located in residential parts of town away from the center and are more suitable if you have a car. While you will be away from the center, you will pay less for your accommodation, as these hotels offer basic accommodations.
I stayed in OYO Hotel Miramar the first time I visited Loreto and had a good time there.
8. Hotel Santa Fe Loreto

Hotel Santa Fe boasts some of the best reviews of all hotels in Loreto. Located along the main roads that lead toward downtown Loreto, this place is also within 10 minutes from Loreto Airport.
Rooms at Hotel Santa Fe Loreto come with kitchenettes that have an electric stove with two burners, a microwave, and a refrigerator.
They also have a coffee maker and toaster. Many visitors comment that their beds are large and comfy.
Downtown Loreto is a short walk away.
9. Hacienda Suites Loreto

Hacienda Suites Loreto is a family-run downtown hotel that is close to many area attractions.
Only a short distance from the Hacienda Suites Loreto guests can discover the area’s rich history. Legendary cave paintings, government buildings, museums, and the beautiful coast are moments away.
The hacienda has great amenities and facilities, including a spacious outdoor swimming pool and an on-site restaurant that serves breakfast.
10. OYO Hotel Miramar

OYO Hotel Miramar is a no-frills stay in Loreto if you need to save money. Located on the outskirts of Loreto in a residential area, this hotel works great if you are traveling through Baja in a car and just need a place to crash.
I stayed in this hotel once, and can say that while it’s pretty simple, it has basic amenities like free parking in the courtyard and around the property as well as wi-fi and a quiet location.
11. Tres Iguanas

Located just 600 meters from Zaragoza Beach, Tres Iguanas is a spacious apartment with a terrace, kitchen, and wi-fi. The property has free bicycles and a flat-screen TV.
It’s a perfect place if you don’t want to stay too far from the center and yet want a quiet location.
12. Tripui Hotel

Hotel Tripui is in Puerto Escondido, 10 minutes south of Loreto by car. Not to be confused with Puerto Escondido Oaxaca, Puerto Escondido Baja California is a small village along the Sea of Cortez.
Surrounded by tropical plants, this hotel offers spectacular views of the Sierra De La Giganta, a mountain chain in central Baja California that’s home to many scenic places like San Javier Mission and hikes like Tabor Canyon and Mesquite Canyon.
Tripui has its own bar, restaurant, and convenience store, so while you won’t be close to downtown Loreto, you will have all the necessities close.
The hotel also can arrange whale watching, scuba diving, and other activities. Guests love the quiet setting, scenic views, and spacious rooms.
Free airport shuttle can take you to Loreto International Airport 15 km away.
Best hotels in Nopolo
Nopolo is a small village just south of Loreto that mainly consists of resorts and golf clubs. If you are looking for all-inclusive hotels in Loreto, consider this area.
The downside of staying in Nopolo is that you will need a car because it’s just over 8 miles from Loreto. Nopolo is known for its gorgeous beaches and snorkeling, so if you plan to spend your vacation here, don’t forget to bring your snorkeling gear.
Another option is to book guided tours of the area like the Loreto tour and the tour of Loreto Bay National Park.

Renting a car in Loreto
I recommend renting a car in Loreto because many scenic areas and beaches near Loreto are not accessible by walking or public transportation. Having a car will give you the freedom to plan your trips however you like.
Do we need a car in Loreto?
You don’t need a car in Loreto, if you plan to fly in and spend your time in town and take tours of Loreto Bay National, Mission San Javier or book a guided ATV ride. However, if you want more freedom and explore nearby places like Mulege, and Bahia Concepcion which has some of the best beaches in Mexico, you will need a vehicle.
